The Liner

Placing The Liner

Once the hole had been levelled as best we could all round, it was time for the liner to go in. Now, you might say where's the underlay and you'd be quite right. I forgot however to take photos of all the new carpet we laid in the bottom of that hole for underliner. This carpet was those 18"X24" carpet samples that a local carpet retailer was kind enough to give me.

So, we put in the liner and added a little water to help smooth out the edges. You can see the stones etc. that we placed around the edges to stop the liner from being pulled into the hole by the weight of the water.

Look Ma, No Wrinkles

Well, very few at least. Here's where we tried to get as many of the wrinkles out of the liner as possible. This proved to be quite a job as we didn't know you could get into the water at this point and do it from there. We kept at it, and we did manage to get almost all of them out in a couple of hours.

At this point we had no idea how much water to put in so we just guessed at it. We added water, pulled out wrinkles, added water, pulled out wrinkles, added wat..... well, you get the general idea.

Rocks, Rocks, and More Rocks

Wow!! I had no idea what four tons of river rock looked like until they dumped it in my driveway. Now that it was all laying in the driveway, the gang had to wheelbarrow every last one of them into the back yard for placement around the pond.

Here's my sone Shane, his girlfriend Miri, and his mother (Judy) placing the rocks around the edging shelf we cut so the water and rocks would cover the liner. My friend Bill (from our local Police Department) was also there for a few day moving rocks and things, and helping to straighten out the liner. Without "Stubby", Bill, and all the other help it just wouldn't have got done as quickly as it did.

Yep, More Rocks

This is a view from just to the left of the waterfall area. I laid a large piece of liner here so that it would catch any run-off from the waterfall rocks. It turned out later that the way I did it wasn't such a great idea as we were indeed losing some water in the falls. A re-desiging of the waterfall later on seemed to fix that problem.

That's my wife Judy over at yonder end taking a well-earned break after moving rocks all day.
