What's On Tap?

Neighborhood Pubs takes pride in selling some of the finest draught beers available in Ontario. One of our specialties is cask-conditioned real ales. In fact, we're the number one seller of this type of beer in North America! We also feature many other microbreweries in our line-up of more than ten draughts. Most of the beers are made naturally with only malt, hops, yeast and pure water... and they are locally brewed. A draught beer is meant to be enjoyed fresh - without pasteurization, preservatives or excessive filtering - therefore it has to be made nearby if quality is the guiding principle... and at The Peterborough Arms, it is! Check the blackboards to see our current selection.

What's Cooking?

The menu also includes many foods which were originally native to the Americas... tomatoes, potatoes, bell peppers, maple syrup and chocolate (yes, even chocolate!). We also take pride in selling locally made cheeses and game meats. Our purchasing motto is we only go as far as we have to, to bring you quality! We even believe we've taken the quintessential North American food, the burger, to new heights! And to round out the menu we have daily specials which feature seasonal and fresh foods.

What's More?

We also offer a fine choice of domestic and imported bottled beers and a full selection of spirits. The staff is especially fond of our collection of single malt whiskies - Highland, Lowland and Western Isles. And, don't forget to ask about our featured wine of the week or try one of our Ontario house wines available by the glass or half litre. If any other product tickles your fancy, then let us know... we'd like to try it too!

What Else?

We like to think that we have a social conscience... at least we try. Ask to see a manager if you need a ride home and we'll arrange it and even look after your car. We also offer non-alcoholic beer and coffee is free at the end of the night. Some of the other positive measures that we've implemented at Neighbourhood Pubs include: recycling all paper, glass and tin; composting kitchen leftovers and scraps; growing our own herbs; and fundraising events for O.P.I.R.G. - an environmental action group. These are just a few things that we're doing to make this pub your pub. Sante!

Neighborhood Pubs in Canada

A "local" pub is a meeting place, a home away from home. These institutions were originally found in ancient times in the form of roadside inns. In fact, innkeeping is considered one of the world's oldest professions! Providing the public with food and drink has had a long and storied past... and why not? As Doctor Johnson once said, "There is nothing which has yet been contrived by man, by which so much happiness is produced as by a good tavem or inn." It wasn't long before the inns and cafes of antiquity became the pubs of Northem Europe - especially in Germany and the British Isles. In most towns these establishments became a hub of activity and often the focal point of the community. It was a place where "everybody knows your name" and actually gave a damn about what was going on in your life. Serving good food and healthy beverages (in moderation, of course) the pub became part of many people's daily regimen.

We at Neighborhood Pubs are creating a Canadian version of the pub phenomenon. Borrowing heavily from our European and New World roots, we have created an ambience which is both welcoming and homey. The food is simple and hearty with good old "pub grub" as well as many indigenous delights. Our beverage selection includes all your favorites while we feature Ontario brews and local wines. It's all served by a friendly staff and at reasonable prices... we hope that you'll want to visit us often and help to establish this pub as your local pub. Cheers!
